Jesus Boat Museum

At Kibbutz Ginosar on the northern shore of the
Sea of Galilee, a great discovery was made.
In 1986, after a long drought, two fishermen discovered an ancient boat. At the same time a double rainbow, extremely rare, crowned the surrounding skies. Was this a sign from God? Experts were brought in to determine its age. It was dated back to the exact time of Jesus – it serves as a link to Jesus and his time.

Now this boat that may have been the very one that Jesus and his disciples used or at the very least, might have been built by Jesus’ hands, is on display at the Yigal Allon Museum at the kibbutz. Kept under subdued lighting, a great portion of the hull remains and as you stand before it, you can catch a glimpse of how the boat must have appeared to the disciples, Peter and Andrew his brother, and James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who may have been in this very same boat on that momentous day when Jesus first called to them, and leaving their father Zebedee, they left the boat and followed him. (Matthew 4:18-22)

This may be the very boat that was used by the disciples to carry the Master across the lake when a great storm arose. The Bible tells us (Mark 4:37-4) that the waves were breaking against the boat so that it was almost full to overflowing.
They ran to Jesus who was asleep in the stern crying, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”
Then he awoke and, rebuking the wind, he said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. Turning to the disciples, he said: “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

Can it be that after the Master appeared to Simon Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, the sons of Zebedee, and the two other disciples as described in John 21, and told Peter to “Feed my lambs,” (John 21:15) that they left the boat lying in the mud, not to be upturned till today?
